This alley was laid out as Elizabeth Alley in 1889 in Charles Haas' plan of lots.[1]
The Borough of Sheraden, including today's neighborhood of Chartiers City, was annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907.[2] The city believed this alley was unnamed, so the following year it was named Cream Alley.[3]
Cream Alley became Cream Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[4]
