Calliope Alley (until 1914) |
This alley appears, unlabeled, in the 1852 map of R. E. McGowin.[1] It is listed as Calliope Alley in an 1881 ordinance that established the names of all streets in Pittsburgh.[2] It became Calliope Way in 1914, when another ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[3]
Bob Regan includes "Calliope" in his "Streets of Pittsburgh" crossword puzzle, clued as "A type of organ, also the Muse of epic poetry."[4]
