Cairo Street

From Pittsburgh Streets
Cairo Street
Neighborhood Mount Washington
Origin of name Cairo, Egypt; modification of earlier name, Carey
Carey Street (until 1881)

This street was laid out as Carey Street in 1872 in a plan of lots by A. C. Patterson.[1] It was renamed Cairo Street in 1881 to avoid confusion with Carey Alley in the South Side Flats (today Carey Way).[2] Bob Regan includes "Cairo" in a list of streets named for cities.[3]
