Banksville Avenue |
A road in the location of modern Potomac Avenue between Greentree Road and Banksville Road appears in the 1876 Hopkins atlas.[1] The 1905 edition labels it Simmons Road.[2]:17 This name probably refers to William Simmons, who lived at the intersection of this road and Banksville Road[1] and owned a piece of land there.[3]
The 1905 Hopkins atlas also gives the part of modern Potomac Avenue south of Banksville Road the name Banksville Avenue.[2]:16
The name Potomac Avenue was in use by 1909.[4] The 1917 Hopkins atlas labels the entire road Potomac Avenue.[5]
