This street was laid out in the New Homestead plan of 1900 as Armor Avenue. Many of the street names in this plan were words relating to steelmaking or steel products.[1][2] This was an apt naming scheme for the development, which was close to and named for the borough of Homestead, famous for the Homestead Steel Works.
Armor Avenue was renamed Armorhill Avenue in 1934,[3] three years after New Homestead was annexed to the city of Pittsburgh.[4][5]
