Alpha Alley (until 1914)
Origin of name The Greek letter alpha

This alley formerly ran between Perrysville Avenue and Viola Street, parallel to those streets, from Milroy Street north nearly to Watson Boulevard, where it turned east to meet Viola Street.[1]

It was laid out as Alpha Alley in the Watson Place plan of 1894.[2] It became Alpha Way in 1914, when a city ordinance changed all alleys in Pittsburgh to ways.[3]
