This street appears as Washington Street in the 1852 map of R. E. McGowin in two short segments: one between Mill Street and Lothrop Street (today 48th Street and 49th Street) and the other between Pawpaw Alley and Cochran Street (today 50th Street and 51st Street).[1] It was renamed Hatfield Street in 1868.[2] (Another segment of Washington Street, between Covington and Ewalt Streets—today 40th and 43rd Streets—was renamed Willow Street by the same ordinance.)[1][2]
