This street appears as Walter Avenue in the 1886 Hopkins atlas,[1] the name by which it is still known in Mount Oliver Borough. It was renamed Wagner Street in 1923.[2]

Bob Regan includes "Wagner" in a list of streets named for noted historical people.[3]:63 According to the index, this list item refers to Wagner Street and Richard Wagner (1813–1883), German composer.[3]:199
