Commerce Street

Not to be confused with Commercial Street. For the 19th-century street along the Monongahela, see Commerce Street (1851–1890).
Commerce Street
Neighborhood East Liberty
McKelvey Alley (until 1898)

This street was originally named McKelvey Alley. It was renamed Commerce Street in 1898.[1]

Bob Regan includes "Commerce" in his "Streets of Pittsburgh" crossword puzzle, clued as "Trade or exchange of goods and money also the name of one U. S. government department."[2] Unfortunately this is just a dictionary definition of the word commerce and gives no particular information about the origin of the street name.
