McKee Street (until ca. 1897) | |
Origin of name | Elizabeth McKee |
This street appears in the 1895 Hopkins atlas as McKee Street, named for Elizabeth McKee, the former owner of the land through which the street runs.[1] Its location was established by an ordinance in 1897, which named it Tacoma Street.[2][3] Presumably the name was changed to avoid confusion with McKee Place in Oakland. The name Tacoma Street was officially established by a city ordinance in 1910.[4] Bob Regan includes "Tacoma" in a list of streets named for cities.[5]
