This street was originally named Haudenshield-Oberhelman Street,[1] a mouthful of a name that referred to two people who owned land adjacent to the street: Jacob Haudenshield and A. Oberhelman.[2] It was renamed Hamburg Street by a city ordinance in 1881 (which misspelled the original name as Handenschell-Oberhelman Street).[1]
