This avenue was laid out in 1903 as part of the West Liberty Plan No. 4 by the Beechwood Improvement Company. The southern part, including the curve and the segment west to Westfield Street, was named Grove Street, while the northern part was named 15th Avenue.[1] The avenues in this plan continued the numbering from the West Liberty Plans No. 2 and 3.[2][3]
In 1907, a West Liberty borough ordinance renamed many streets. Grove Street became Princess Avenue, and 15th Avenue was changed to Profile Avenue.[4]
The Borough of West Liberty was annexed by the City of Pittsburgh in 1908.[5] Profile Avenue was made part of Princess Avenue in 1916.[6]
