Dill Alley (until 1914) |
This alley appears as Dill Alley in the 1902 Hopkins atlas.[1]
It was apparently missed in the great street renaming of 1910, three years after the annexation of Allegheny into the City of Pittsburgh. To avoid confusion with Dill Alley on Mount Washington (today also named Dill Way), a different Dill Alley on the North Side was renamed Doll Alley (today Doll Way), and Dill Street was made part of Sedgwick Street. But the renaming ordinance did not mention this Dill Alley,[2] nor did the following ordinance that listed all the thoroughfares in the city.[3]
It automatically became Dill Way in 1914 when another ordinance changed all alleys in the city to ways.[4]
