This street was originally named Denny Street.[1][2][3][4] It was renamed De Soto Street in 1881 to fix the duplication with Denny Street in Lawrenceville.[5][6]
Bob Regan includes "DeSoto" in a list of streets named for noted historical people;[7] the implied eponym seems to be Hernando de Soto (ca. 1500 – 1542), Spanish explorer and conquistador, who led an expedition through what is today the southeastern United States.
