Origin of name | Its location in the center of McFarland's Grove plan of lots |
This street was laid out as Centre Street in the McFarland's Grove plan of lots, recorded in 1865, named because it ran through the center of the plan.[1][2] After the East End was annexed to the city of Pittsburgh in 1868,[3] this name conflicted with Centre Avenue, so it was renamed Copeland Street by a city ordinance in 1881.[4]
