Euclid Street (1870–1881)
Penn Circle West (1968–2013)

This street appears as Berlin Street in the East Liberty inset of the 1862 map of S. N. and F. W. Beers.[1] The street was laid out in 1870 as Euclid Street.[2] The 1872 Hopkins atlas labels it Berlin Street in the map of East Liberty[3]:70 but Euclid Street in the map of the Nineteenth Ward.[3]:61 An 1881 ordinance establishing the names of all streets in the city of Pittsburgh named it Euclid Avenue.[4]

Euclid Avenue was officially divided into two streets, North Euclid Avenue and South Euclid Avenue, on either side of Penn Avenue, by a city ordinance in 1915.[5]

In 1968, as part of the urban redevelopment plan in East Liberty, several streets were renamed to create Penn Circle; a portion of Euclid Avenue became Penn Circle West.[6][7] Penn Circle West was changed back to Euclid Avenue in 2013.[8][9]
